The table below shows the number of farms and number of goats in Canada as a whole, and in the provinces, in 2001 and 2006. Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia are the only provinces with an increase in goat numbers. Note also that, with these 4 provinces all showing an increase in the number of goats, three of them (the exception is the Province of Quebec) experience a decrease in the number of farms. For example, in Manitoba, while the number of goats from 2001 to 2006 has increased about 4%, the number of farms has decreased (during the same period) by about 7%.

Manitoba has about 7% of the goat population in Canada. The average herd size in Manitoba is 30 goats, compared to the national average at 26 goats per farm.
